It's time for my first real film project!
I'm currently getting ready to shoot a short film inspired by "Toute la mémoire du monde," Alain Resnais's pulp-mystery-meets-documentary about the Bibliothèque Nationale (essentially the French equivalent of the Library of Congress). I'll be filming in the underground archive "caverns" at the University of Minnesota's Andersen Library, where I work, and hopefully I'll have the help of a few of my coworkers as extras. I don't know yet whether I'll be able to post the finished product here, given deviantART's quality standards -- I'll just be using a DV camcorder and whatever editing software I can get a hold of -- but I'm hoping. If not, I'll probably post an external link. Either way, I'll be doing a photography series along with it, and that will of course be posted.
A student journal did a story on our caverns not too long ago -- there are some photos and something of a video tour on their website, if you'd like something of a preview:
[link]I'm planning to shoot in black and white and to take as much stylistic inspiration from the Resnais film as possible. At least one of my coworkers has agreed to be filmed, and now I just have to find someone who can do a good melodramatic 1950s inflection for the narration. (If you want to nominate yourself as a candidate, feel free to shoot me a message! I have someone in mind, but I don't know if he'll be up for it.)
Wish me luck!
